Why Do People Drive Trucks?

AF Van2Do You Like To Drive?

I like to drive. I'll jump in the car and go for a day trip. A few years ago, I took a one week RV trip covering almost 2000 miles. It was fun.

Why do people drive professionally?

I have been observing drivers at work for over 35 years, here are my hypotheses:

  1. They would rather be alone in their trucks, than depend on others.
  2. They don’t want the office politics or a meaningless relationship with a co-worker.
  3. They like the daily adventure of driving. Every day is different. Every mile is different.
  4. They want control of their day to do want they want, when they want to.
  5. They just want to do their driving job well.

What do you think?

Do You Like Your Delivery Driver?

Your Deliver Driver is Important to You

If you don’t like your delivery driver, you might think the company stinks. If you love your delivery driver, then you love the company they work for. It doesn’t much matter what color the truck is, or how big the company is.

The delivery driver is the extremity of the corporate body. They are the face, the eyes and ears of the company. If your experience with the delivery driver is not good, it does not reflect well on the company.

Is Your Deliver Driver An Ambassador?

The driver may deliver the goods but do they deliver the brand promise? Are the drivers brand ambassadors? Do they deliver a great impression of the company?

The delivery driver may be the only contact you have with the company. I think the delivery driver should be a customer service agents on wheels.

What has been your experience with delivery drivers?

How Process Improvement Can Help Your Business PDF

Process ImprovementWile E. Coyote Is My Process Improvement Hero

Of all the heros and superheros I have known, Wile E. Coyote has never been on that list. I only recently discovered an ardent admiration for Mr. Coyote. Why? Because, he is a process improvement expert. He is a tenacious problem solving animal and an avid proponent of Plan-Do-Check-Act. Mr. Coyote may not realize how good he is but he does have a fan club. At this writing there are five fan pages on Facebook regarding Wile E. Coyote with a grand total of over 19,000 likes/members. Mr. Coyote may not even realize his process improvement process is classic. Nevertheless, here is what Mr. Coyote does that is so amazing.

Social Media - What's the Point? PDF

ROII think it is fair to say, at this point of its short history, that social media is misunderstood. Opinions survive on either side of the spectrum. The crevasse exists between the early and the late adopters; just like it does with any breakthrough in technology. A computer story is illustrated within that is parallel to changes brought by the introduction of the airplane, automobile, and even telephone before that.

The difference of opinion is based on many fears: the longevity and persistence in the market, the usefulness and, not least of all, is the return on investment (ROI) of both time and money.

To the Moon, Alice PDF

moonThe famous last words of bus driver Ralph Cramden, when he’s been outsmarted by his wife, Alice, on the “Honeymooners”.

Everyone talks about team when it is most needed, and it doesn’t happen as often as it should. Some Lone Rangers think they can do it by themselves and they don’t want to be on a team. The Lone Rangers may think their problem is unique and no one can help. They may also want to be secretive and not want to expose their great idea. The Lone Ranger wants to be the “star” and not share the glory. Phooey!
